Oran Park was established in 1963. The original layout closely resembled what is today known as the “South Circuit”. After hosting events successfully for ten years, the “North Circuit” was added in 1973, and when linked with the South Circuit, formed the full “Grand Prix Circuit”. The name coming from the fact that the track hosted its first Australian Grand Prix on the layout.

The circuit has hosted many epic battles, and has hosted many rounds of the Australian Touring Car Championship. Sadly, the circuit is scheduled to wind down racing operations in 2009 to eventually become a residential estate.

Oran Park is located on Cobbity Road, Narellan. Nearby centres are Camden, Campbelltown and Liverpool. There are numerous motels and restaurants in the local area.

The South Circuit layout that will be used for the opening round of the Independent Race Series is a compact yet flowing circuit. Circuit length is 1.96km, top speeds are in excess of 200km/h, and there are five challenging corners.

Spectators can generally get a good view of the entire circuit from most positions. Prime viewing areas include the final turn grandstand, leading onto the main straight, the dog-leg or flip-flop - a blind corner on the crest of a hill at the back of the circuit.
